Default READ FIRST - Suggestion Forum Guidelines (UPDATED 20/12/07

Alright people, as has become more obvious to me recently this forum needs a bit more organization. It's becoming very difficult and quite a hassle to keep ideas organized. Things such as repeat threads, threads with titles that have nothing to do with the suggestions, multiple suggestions in one thread---these sorts of things make it difficult for both moderators and the community to keep track of ideas that have been suggested here. Because of this, here are the new guidelines we'd like everyone to keep in mind and follow.
  • Always use the search button before posting a new thread to see if your ideas been suggested before.
  • Always check the stickied Index of Ideas to see if your idea can be found in there.
  • If your idea is a slight change of another suggestion that's already been suggested, don't post a new thread on it, post it in the existing thread and continue the discussion over the general idea.
  • Make sure your thread titles list your idea. Don't post threads with vague titles like "Greatest Suggestion Yet" when only in your post do you discuss your suggestion. Make sure your thread title states your idea, to keep things organized and less confusing.
  • The practice of posting simple 'bumps' to threads when nobody is responding is discouraged here, and threads seen being 'bumped' without good reason and nothing new to add, will be closed. If you are going to 'bump' a thread, do so after a reasonable amount of time, and let your 'bump' post contribute something to the thread rather than simply taking the thread up to the top of the forum.
  • Do not post "A Few Ideas" threads. If you have more than one idea ---first double check with the search button and the index thread to make sure they're fresh suggestions, and create a separate thread for each one with a relevant title.
  • If you don't feel like creating a separate thread for each suggestion you have, post all of them in the Index of Ideas thread stickied at the top of the forum.
  • Of course, keep this to suggestions only. Not builds, not rants or PvP vs PvE discussions, etc. This is the suggestions forum.
  • Post constructively. If you like, or dislike an idea, please give reasons why. A minimum character limit has been put in place to help encourage this, and will be enforced by moderators as they see fit.
  • Use the Search Button and check the Index thread to make sure you're not repeating an idea.
  • Do it again.

There they are, stick to them so this forum can be kept as organized and straight forward as possible. Not only to make it easier for us as a community, but also easier for devs to read and respond.

In addition, I'd like to remind everyone that all the basic forum rules apply as well. If you'd like to look over them, they can be viewed here.

As far as the practice of "thread necromancy" goes, the Sardelac is a bit different. You are free to bump old threads, in some cases encouraged, provided they are still relevant. Do not bump a thread that makes a suggestion that has already been implimented or else it will be closed.

Also, feel free to bring up anything offensive to our moderators' attention by using the "Report" function on the left of every post:

Use this when someone is clearly breaking the rules. Personal attacks, trolling (people actively trying to get people flaming), advertisements, abuses of the english language (though keep in mind it may not be a person's first language), spamming, threads posting in the wrong forum (i.e. not a game suggestion), and links to offensive or illegal material (keep your porn to yourself) are appropriate things to report.

DO NOT REPORT a post of someone simply disagreeing with you. DO NOT REPORT someone you hate because you hate them. And DO NOT REPORT a post multiple times. Only once is enough. Each time you report a post, an email is sent to all the relevant moderators. There is no need to spam us. Someone will get to it in time. And if nothing is done about it, consider that we may not have agreed with you on the subject. Perhaps we found nothing wrong with the post you reported.

Happy posting, Sardelac!

The rules above suggest you check the Index of Ideas and do a search, but with the release of the new chapter, it is also worth checking one more thing before you suggest a new featre: the patch notes of the game!

ArenaNet will naturally be implimenting new features into their game, many taken from suggestions posted here. If you post a suggestion that, unwittingly, has already been implimented or will very shortly be implimented you will look down right silly, won't you? Although it's not exactly a formal rule, we will close that sort of thing.

Default READ BEFORE POSTING: Replying To Suggestion Threads

We will no longer allow just a mere /signed or /notsigned. If you would like to be a part of the suggestion, please state your reason why you agree or disagree, or contribute something of worth to the thread. If you add nonsense/spam to your /signed or /notsigned, it will be deleted. The reason you cannot just put /signed is because it is cluttering up threads, making them harder to read and moderate. Instead, just state why you agree/disagree. This is part of a new system that will not only make our (the staff) jobs easier, but will also hopefully increase the enjoyability and ease of browsing the forum.

Thank you for your co-operation,
Sardelac Moderators

Note: the 12 character limit was put in place to prevent simple posts as described above. Do not bypass the 12 character limit by adding symbols, numbers, random jumbles of letters, or any other ridiculous methods.

Post constructively (even a sentence or two describing why you do or do not like an idea is fine), or it is spam, and will be deleted.

A new kind of spam is starting to appear more and more, and is beginning to become a barrier to discussion. Some posters have decided to inform everyone that A-Net won't be implementing any new features, or that a particular feature won't be implemented.

Sardelac is a place for discussion, whether A-Net will implement the feature or not. Posts like this run the risk of being deleted, as they do not contribute to the discussion.

A reminder to those who choose to post "heckling" people for acting as "thread necromancers". An idea is an idea, and if it's been posted before, and someone has the forsight to use the search function, we would ask forum users to not create posts such as "gg thread necro". These posts are unconstructive, and will be deleted, and does not promote others to search for already well established threads. Sardelac is not the same as other forums on GWG, since a thread only becomes outdated if an idea is implemented, on the whole, and so bumping an old discussion because you think it is still relevant is perfectly fine.

If you feel a thread has been bumped, which is seriously out-dated, or perhaps it's an idea which has actually been incorporated into the game, please report it to a Sardelac Moderator so that we may look over it and decide for ourselves whether the thread is a candidate for closure or not.

We thank you for your co-operation.

I'd like to remind everyone that when you see someone in some way violating our rules, the best thing to do is to report them using the report button. The worst thing to do is to flame them for not following the rules. We're seeing some of this and all it does is make the thread explode into a fiery mess.

so if sum1 s tipin in, bad enlish an u want to do sumn bot it... report it rather than say "nice English you f-ing idiot!!" If someone is flaming you, your best strategy is to report it, not flame them back. Report it and continue the discussion like their comment isn't even there.

Similarly, if you see an advertiser, report them and do not reply to that thread. Replying only helps the advertiser. It does not increase your stupid post count; once the thread is deleted, your post count decrements. Here's a thread on that very subject. Read it twice from top to bottom.
